How Long Do Invisalign Treatments Take?

Invisalign treatments are a great option for adults and teens who want to straighten their teeth without the unsightly metal of standard braces. However, they are not always a good fit for every patient. Some people will experience severe Invisalign pain and need to switch to a different treatment plan, while others have little or no discomfort at all. If you are thinking about getting Invisalign, make sure that you do your research so that you can make the best decision for your smile.

If you are a candidate for Invisalign, your orthodontist Invisalign treatments will create a detailed treatment plan that includes a timeline for the duration of your course of treatment. Typically, the treatment takes between six and 18 months. The exact length of your treatment will depend on the severity of your dental flaws and how often you wear the aligners.

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign trays control both the timing and the force of your adjustments. They are designed to shift your teeth into place over a series of 10-day to 3-week periods. Your trays are molded from a 3-D model of your mouth, so they are custom-made for you. Each tray is slightly different from the next, and each one moves specific teeth a little bit at a time.

Because the trays are removable, you can take them out while eating and drinking. However, if you forget to put them back in after you are finished, food may get stuck inside of them and cause bacteria to grow along your teeth or gum line. If you are not careful, your aligners can also be prone to staining, so it is important that you rinse them after each use and before putting them back in.

Many people find that they do not have to visit their orthodontist as often with Invisalign, as they would if they were using standard braces. Typically, you will only need to visit your dentist or orthodontist about once every 6-8 weeks throughout the duration of your treatment.

It is also important to remember that your Invisalign treatment will not be effective if you do not wear it for the required twenty-two hours each day. If you do not wear the trays enough, your teeth will not move as they should and it will take longer for you to achieve your desired result.

If you do not have orthodontic insurance, check with your dentist or orthodontist to see if they offer payment plans for Invisalign. Also, ask your orthodontist if they are a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, as this organization offers first consultations for free or at a reduced cost. Alternatively, you can contact your local community health center to find out if they provide orthodontic treatment to low-income patients.

Straightening your crooked teeth with Invisalign can improve your appearance and give you confidence in your smile. Straight teeth are easier to clean and therefore are healthier than crooked or overlapping teeth. For these reasons, it is important to find a practitioner that can help you reach your goals for a beautiful, healthy smile!
